We had a very fun-filled and interesting beginning to our Mother’s Day weekend. In a case of “the mountain traveling to Mohamed”, Sherry and I headed down to Philadelphia to visit Cam and kick-off the weekend. We also plan to see my sister and Mom on the Jersey Shore, and stop at Ali’s place in Queens for a Sunday dinner. While down in Philly, we took a great hike with Cam in Blue Bell Park, delivered the fully restored grandfather’s desk (see adventure #2), had a couple of nice meals and helped to solve a “murder!” Read on!
Our trip began with a hike in the beautiful Blue Bell Park, along the Wissahickon Creek. The weather was sunny and perfect for treking. Along the way we were passed by bicyclists, runners, fellow walkers and an occasional horse or two. Being among nature is one of Sherry’s favorite pass-times, and it felt great to finally be outdoors after so many days of rain. We then headed back to Somo in Manyunk for a nice, but noisy lunch featuring one of the best pancakes I’ve ever tasted.

We stopped back at Cam’s place near Rittenhouse Square and brought her the completed desk that I restored. After a change of clothes and a moment of celebration we met Ben and headed off to our evening’s adventure: A murder mystery at the Red Rum theater near Washington Square. We did not know what to expect, and were a bit shocked when the “cast” of F*R*I*E*N*D*S came out to the television theme-song music, and, well… no one told us “life was gonna be this way…” but, someone dies.
We laugh as the accusations fly between the cast members. We thought that the actor who played Chandler, got it right. Monica was her tenacious, intense self. Phoebe and sister Ursula were very good and Joey, Rachel and Ross rounded out the cast with a few guest stars. The audience joined in for renditions of “Smelly Cat,” “Happy Birthday” and a few new songs.
At the end, we each guessed who committed the multiple murders we witnessed. It was a cute concept, but we all agreed that the real murderer was the person who wrote the script!

We finished our evening at the very trendy Japanese restaurant Morimoto nearby. There was a very cool porthole view from the bar upstairs. To be honest, I had no idea it was this nice when i made the reservations. The service was impeccable, food was unique and all presented very well. A very nice meal. Wishing everyone a Happy Mother’s Day!
