Look: Up in the sky – it’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, It’s a super kosher for Passover birthday cake!
One of the “joys” of being born in the spring is that 40% of the time my birthday falls during Passover and getting a decent birthday cake is nearly impossible. Except when you are married to my favorite superhero, Sherry. She ordered a cake from “My Most Favorite Dessert Company” and boy was it yummy.

Now, you are probably wondering a couple of things. First, why am I using all the Superman references, and second, is celebrating a birthday REALLY an adventure?
I always knew my birthday fell on that fateful night when Paul Revere rode through the streets of Boston yelling “the British are coming”, but I never knew before that Superman was introduced to the world by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in Action Comics #1, published on my birthday April 18, 1938. Or rather, I was born on Superman’s launch date.
Regarding your second question. No, celebrating a birthday is not normally an adventure – but Passover Sedars are always adventures. Sedars require an inordinate amount of preparation: cleaning, new dishes, squeezing in enough seats, preparing interesting discussions. And you never know who is going to spill something! Besides, celebrating a 65th birthday during a Sedar – that is something I have certainly never done before!
To add to the joy of this week, I got to celebrate with two people I have never met before, three people who were celebrating their very first Sedars and a group of people that I love dearly, but rarely get to see. Cousins flew in from the west coast. My great-nephew Yona got to celebrate both Sedars with us. We had a surprise visit from a couple of distant cousins. And the first time smacking each other with scallions, oh my! Altogether a remarkable start to a fun Passover week.
